Abstract

1280828 Collapsible crates H L DAVIES G J JONES and W E JONES 13 Oct 1969 [31 Oct 1968] 51769/68 Heading B8P [Also in Division A1] A container of plywood, light weight metal or a plastics can be collapsed flat when empty and has one side 11 that hinges down to form a large opening, the container remaining rigid when the side 11 is open. The container may be used for transporting pigeons or livestock. A strip of canvas 16 or of a plastic may form the hinge for the side 11 or the side may pivot about two pins projecting into the container end walls. A pivoted flap 23 enables pigeons &c. to be placed into the container. The bottom, side 11 and rear side opposite to side 11 are all hinged together to form a unit and the top and two end walls are also hinged to gether as a unit. Brackets 19 secured to the bottom wall locate the side walls and a similar bracket on the top wall locates the rear wall. The container may have a canvas lining over the bottom and sides. Aluminium corner posts 30 accommodate the ends of the walls. Ventilation apertures 21, 22 are provided and may, in addition, be provided in the vertical walls. The edges of the openable side may be reinforced with metal strip. In the collapsed condition the walls are secured together by a strap.
