Abstract

1279104 Glucans from mushrooms AJINOMOTO CO Ltd 7 Oct 1969 [8 Oct 1968 15 March 1969] 49278/69 Heading A5B [Also in Division C3] A novel #-(1->3) glucan having the IR spectrum shown in Fig. 1, and a novel #-(1->4) (1->6) glucan having the IR spectrum shown in Fig. 2, have anti-tumour activity and are prepared by subjecting the fruit body of an edible mushroom to extraction with hot water, concentrating the extract, precipitating a mixture of polysaccharides, which includes at least one of the anti-tumour glucans, by mixing the extract with a watermiscible organic solvent and separating the desired products. The compounds are used in pharmaceutical compositions in the presence of a suitable diluent or carrier.
