Abstract
1279001 Welding by fusion ISHIKAWAJIMA-HARIMA JUKOGYO KK 19 June 1969 [2 Nov 1968] 31128/69 Heading B3R In the welding of a pipe 2 to another object, e.g. a header 1 in the construction of a boiler, a copper welding jig 3 for supporting electrodes 11 is placed about the pipe 2 and is constructed with a surface 8 adapted to fit the member 1 and with a surface 9 whereby the molten metal is retained within the weld zone. The jig 3 is constructed in two parts held together by a bolt 10 and has inspection openings 6 to the interior 4 in which is maintained an inert atmosphere of, e.g. CO 2 or argon, supplied through a pipe 28. The electrode 11, which is of the consumable type, passes through an opening 5 with provision for adjusting its angularity. Twelve such electrodes may be provided, adjacent electrodes having opposite polarity to assist the deposition of weld metal, and the electrodes may be supplied with high or low value currents.
