Abstract

1277698 Photo-electric IC engine fuel injection control LUMENITION Ltd 19 April 1971 [25 Feb 1970] 9049/70 Addition to 1244630 Heading G1A In a fuel injection arrangement for an I. C. engine wherein an apertured opaque element is moved between a source of radiation and a detector in timed relation to the engine speed to expose the detector to and cut it off from the radiation in order to control the injection of a desired quantity of fuel, and which includes a transistor amplifier, there is provided between the detector and the switching means an odd numbered plurality of transistor stages T 1 -T 3 , Fig.3, arranged in cascade to switch in inverse relation to one another. The collector circuit resistors R 1 -R 4 may have the following relationship R 2 = n R 1 , R 3 = n<SP>2</SP>R1 and R4 = n<SP>3</SP>R1. The transistor photo-detector may be connected as one transistor of a Darlington pair the output of which is connected to the base of T 1 through a pair of series diodes to raise the voltage across the pair. The photo-electric pulse generating attachment comprises a disc 4, having slots 8 for a multi-cylinder engine the sides of which are not radial, mounted in a casing 2, Fig.1 on which the source 10 and detector 48 are mounted on a disc 9 with provision for positional adjustment both radially and circumferentially.
