Abstract

1,271,711. Hauling lines. H.G.TRAFFORD. 10 Feb., 1970 [1 April, 1969], No. 17049/69. Heading B8B. A line hauler comprises a pair of driven contra-rotating line gripping pulleys 2, 3 mounted on a head 1 rotatable substantially through a full circle in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the pulleys 2, 3, the head being lockable at a number of positions around the circle. The head 1 is mounted in an upright support tube 9 through the interior of which extends a shaft for driving the pulleys 2, 3 through bevel or worm gearing, a dog or slipping clutch, and a gear-box on the head. The latter incorporates idler line guide pulleys 18 and a disc base having a spring loaded pin which is engageable in any one of a plurality of recesses formed in an adjacent disc secured to the tube 9, to locate the head in a desired position. The pin may be locked in the disengaged position to permit free swivelling of the head. The pulley drive shaft may be driven by an hydraulic motor.
