Abstract

1,271,580. Supports and tension apparatus for fractured legs. C. PETERSSON and G. WIDOLF. 24 Nov., 1969 [26 Nov., 1968], No. 57464/69. Heading A5R. A support and tension apparatus for a fractured leg consists of a frame 1 to one end of which is pivotally connected a first support 2 for the upper leg pivoted to which is a second support 3 for the lower leg, uprights 5 at the other end of the frame surmounted by a member 6 carrying pulleys 20, 21, 16, 17 over which pass cables 19, 15 which are connected respectively to the free end of the first support 2 and via yoke 14 to the second support 3 and which cables at their other ends carries weights 22, 18 respectively or are attached by hooks to uprights 5. The support 2 is connected to the frame 1 by means of links 7 whose position can be altered by worm gearing (9, 10) Fig. 4, (not shown). An extension yoke 23 connected to the upper leg by wire 24 has a cable 25 which passes over pulleys 26, 27 and is loaded by a weight 28. Fig. 3, (not shown) depicts a modification in which the second support 3 has an extension (38) carrying pulleys (39) around which passes a cable (44) applying a tension to the lower leg via yoke (42), the cable passing around pulleys (41) and being loaded by weight (46). The direction of the applied tension can be varied by moving an apertured member (45) through which cable (44) passes. The relative positions of support members 5 and the pulleys carried on member 6 can be adjusted and held by clamps 35, 30, 33.
