Abstract

1,271,462. Wells &c. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 29 July, 1969 [31 July, 1968], No. 37935/69. Heading E1F. A marine conductor 42 is connected to a wellhead assembly 21 by lowering it along a previously established guide line 32. The guideline 32 is lowered on a drill string 10 and guided into latching engagement with a post 26 on the wellhead assembly by a water jet 34 and with the aid of a TV camera 29 and sonar 30. The drill string is withdrawn taking with it a closure cap 27 from a re-entry conduit 24. The conductor having a connector assembly 41 carrying guidelines 50, 51 is lowered so that co-operating means on a tube 45, Fig. 4, and the post 26 orient the connector assembly on the wellhead for the guidelines 50, 51 to be latched on to guideposts 19, 20 after the assembly 41 is connected. The force required to lower the conductor against tensioning means 33 is provided by a pulldown line 52 connected to a hoist 54, or by hydraulic final pull-down cylinders.
