Abstract
1,267,482. Defoaming compositions. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 14 July; 1970 [16 July, 1969], No. 34109/70. Heading C1C. A de-foaming composition comprises a solution of a non-ionic emulsifier and a hydrate of a fatty acid mixed salt in a hydrophobic organic solvent. The hydrate is a mixed salt of polyvalent metals, e.g. Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Al, Zr, Ce, Mn, Cr, Zn and/or of lower dibasic amines, e.g. ethylene or propylene diamine, piperazine, or 3-dimethylamine-propylamine, with a C 10 -C 22 fatty acid, converted by the addition of water. The emulsifier is oil-soluble and hydrophilic, but not water-soluble, particularly nonylphenylhexaglycol ether, stearyl alcohol hexaglycol ether, stearic acid octaglycol ester or an alkoxylated fatty acid mono-, di- or tri-glyceride. The solvent may be a hydrocarbon, e.g. a paraffin oil, tetralin, decalin, cyclopentane, cyclohexane, xylene, or an alkylnaphthalene, a natural fatty oil, e.g. olive, soya bean or rape seed oil, a silicone oil, or an organic phosphate. The composition can be made by dissolving the salt or emulsifier in the solvent, preferably with heating. Alternatively, the salt is produced in situ from the fatty acid and the amines, or metal oxides, hydroxides or carbonates.
