Abstract
1,263,373. Protective arrangement. POTTERTON INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 21 May, 1970 [3 June, 1969], No. 27951/69. Heading H2K. In electrical heating apparatus, e.g. storage space heaters or water heaters, having a thermostatically controlled medium-heating resistance heating element H, there is provided a fusible link member F the continuity of which is necessary for energization of the element H, and an excess-temperature thermally-responsive switch Tx disposed in thermal relationship with the medium and adapted to cause the fusible member F to melt when the medium attains a predetermined temperature in excess of the thermostatically controlled temperature, e.g. due to failure of the thermostat Tc. The switch Tx may short circuit the supply, as shown, when the predetermined temperature is reached, or may switch on, or remove a short circuit from, a heating element for the fusible member F, Figs. 2 to 4 (not shown). In other arrangements the melting of the member F interrupts the supply to a relay having its contacts in series with the elements H of the apparatus, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown).
