Abstract

1,259,783. Carbon fibre laminates. COURTAULDS Ltd. 14 May, 1969 [15 May, 1968], No. 23019/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Division D1] Warp sheets of carbon filaments or staple fibres are prepared by laying together a series of tapes of carbon filaments or staple fibres and impregnating them with a resin composition. The sheet so formed is passed under a roller or between rollers to distribute the resin uniformly and to remove excess resin. The tapes may be wound round a mandrel and after impregnation the cylinder of tapes cut to produce a flat sheet. The sheets may be used to form laminates, preferably with alternate layers having their filamentary axes at right angles to one another, with or without the use of additional resinous material.
