Abstract

1,251,889. Soldering. CATERPILLAR MITSUBISHI Ltd. 21 May, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 26041/69. Heading B3R. In soldering parts of a heat exchanger by dipping the parts in molten solder, means for applying vibrations to the parts or to the molten solder are energized for a predetermined time while the parts are immersed in the solder and the parts are finally removed from the solder. An assembly 9 comprising water tubes 7 and a header plate 8 is supported in a holder 6 provided with a vibrator 5 and is dipped in a bath 3 of solder 4 held molten by burners 1 in a body 2. The assembly is vibrated at 1000-5000 cycles per minute for 0À5-3 minutes. In a modification a cushioning member is provided between the body and the flanged rim of the bath and vibrators are disposed on the rim to vibrate the solder in the bath. In an example of soldering a tractor radiator the soldering temperature is 320-340‹ C., the frequency of vibration is 3400-3450 cycles per minute, the amplitude of vibration is 0À1-0À2 mm. and the time of vibration is 30 seconds.
