Abstract
1,248,933. Swash-plate pumps and motors. ABEX CORP. Sept.24, 1968 [Oct. 30, 1967], No.45377/68. Headings F1A and F1S. A revolving cylinder swash-plate pump or motor 12 has ports, one in the side of each bore which is covered at all times by the piston, which are in constant communication with a common inlet for high-pressure fluid, and a passage 72 formed in each piston to communicate between a piston shoe 60 and the side wall 49 of the piston so that in operation a restricted flow of fluid is supplied to the shoe. In a swash-plate motor a pressure source 10 supplies hydraulic or pneumatic fluid through an adjustable pressure control valve 11 which may be reversible to a hydraulic motor 12. Motor 12 includes a cylindrical centre body 35, a port block 36 and a head plate 37. A roller bearing 41 rotatably journals the cylinder block 42 which drives a shaft 43 to which the block is loosely connected by splines 44. Cylinder block 42 has nine cylindrical bores 49 which communicate through openings 51 to arcuate pressure and exhaust ports 52, 53. Each bearing shoe 60 passes through an opening formed in a hold-down plate 62 which abuts shoulders 63 of the shoes and thereby maintains the shoes in engagement with the swash-plate 57. The motor may be provided with means for varying the angle of the swash-plate, thereby varying the displacement of the pistons. The pressure fluid is supplied constantly into the recess 68 of the shoe via rotating seal 82 to circumferential grooves 85 in each cylinder bore and then through bores 71, 72 which end in a circumferential groove 74. Pressure in chamber 77 and groove 74 is balanced and leakage of fluid between them is zero. Groove 85 is positioned so that it is never directly aligned with piston grooves 74, nor does it open directly to the tank chamber 38 when the piston is in its innermost position. Alternatively a recess can be provided in the piston or passage 84 can enter bore 49 directly. The separate shoe pressure supply system reduces fluid leakage and establishes pressure for vectors which act on the piston tending to recentre it when it is cocked or tipped in its cylinder bore. The separate pressure feed means may also be incorporated in pumps which are convertible into motors.
