Abstract

1,247,960. Breathing assistor. BOWLES ENG. CORP. 25 Nov., 1969 [26 Nov., 1968], No. 57712/69. Heading A5T. A fluidic breathing assistor comprises a bistable fluidic element 10 of the "wall attachment type" having a channel 33 for communication via conduit 35 to a patient and a channel 31 communicating with the ambient. A nozzle 11 leads to an interaction region 13 at one end of which a "V" shaped flow splitter 29 is provided each side forming one wall of channels 31 and 33. A feedback passage 43 with a valve 45 is provided from the channel 33 communicating with region 13 via a control nozzle 25. An opening 28 to the ambient communicates with interaction region 13 via vent passage 27 and via valve 30 to control nozzle 23. Vent passage 39 links channel 33 with the ambient. During inhalation gas flows through channel 33 from a gas source as shown by the arrows in Fig. 1. After inhalation the gas flow is switched by means of control nozzles 23 and 25, to channel 31 and exhaled air is entrained in this flow. The device can be combined with a nebulizer.
