Abstract

1,243,698. Disc brakes. KELSEY-HAYES CO. 2 Oct., 1969, No. 48456/69. Heading F2E. A disc brake comprises a housing formed from two parts 11, 15 secured together and having a chamber therebetween the chamber opening at one side through a disc entry slot and opening at the opposite side through an access window. A pair of opposed friction pads 24, 25 demountable through the window, are housed in the chamber, one pad being actuated by a fluid operated piston 17. The housing is slidably mounted such that the other pad 25 is indirectly actuated by the fluid pressure. In the construction shown, the pads are urged to their inoperative positions by a spring 38 which is mounted on a friction pad guide pin 35. In a further embodiment (Figs. 5 to 7, not shown), the brake pads are guided on two parallel pins and the brake includes mechanical means comprising push pins actuated by a cam lever for urging the piston-actuated brake pad into engagement with the disc. In a still further embodiment the mounting bracket is provided with a pair of stabilizing arms for receiving and guiding the pair of screws which provide the sliding mounting for the housing. A clip is provided for anchoring the headed ends of the brake pad guiding pins (Figs. 10, 11, not shown).
