Abstract

1,240,363. Insulation structure. ATLAS CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Inc. 8 May, 1969 [9 May, 1968], No. 23615/69. Heading B5N. [Also in Division F2] An insulation structure suitable for pipes comprises a rigid cellular plastics foam 24 having a series of truncated V-shaped grooves 22 adhered to a continuous hand deformable skin 14 which may extend beyond an end surface of the foam, wherein the apex of the V-shape terminates at the inner surface of the skin and the truncated portion is sufficient to prevent fraction upon flexing the structure but does not prevent closure thereof. A second skin 16 may be provided on the surface into which the grooves are cut. The foam is preferably polyurethane which is formed in situ from a polyfunctional isocyanate, a polyfunctional hydroxy base material, a blowing agent, catalyst and optionally cell size regulators and fillers and examples of all these components, as well as other foams are specified. The skins may be of aluminium, steel, copper, paper, wood sheeting, clay or asphalt felts, woven or batting fibres, P.V.C., polyethylene or polytetrafluoroethylene. The grooves may have an internal angle of 5-90 degrees.
