Abstract

1,138,909. Data transmission systems. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 10 Feb., 1967 [16 Feb., 1966], No. 6514/67. Heading H4P. In a digital transmission system a carrier is modulated in amplitude, frequency and phase to represent a group of n digits. The embodiment described employs a 4-bit group. One of two frequencies is selected corresponding to the first bit. The selected frequency passes to a circuit which generates four signals differing in phase, and the second and third bits select one of these four signals. The selected signal is modulated in amplitude by the fourth bit and transmitted. At the receiver the signal passes to amplitude, frequency and phase discriminators whose outputs are gated to reconstruct the original 4-bit group.
