Columns; reinforced block-work girders and beams; reinforced blockwork walls; walls; roofs and roofing.-Buildings of concrete, earthen are or equivalent material comprise vertical stanchions 2 and horizontal beams 3, 4 consisting of blocks 1 connected together byrods 5, the spaces between the stanchions and beams being filled in with tongued and grooved panels, slabs, or the like 15 fitted in recesses in the blocks. Similar panels or slabs form the roof and are supported on principals resting on the upper beams 4 while the floor beams and flooring are supported by the lower beams 3, a central beam being provided. The blocks 1 are made of a length equal to twice the width and have two or more parallel rows of holes 12 spaced in relation to the sides and ends of the blocks and to each other in such a manner as to make possible the use of the rods 5 when the blocks are arranged in the various combinations used in the art. The bases 6 of the stanchions 2 are larger than the stanchions and may themselves consist of larger blocks or they may be built up. Doors and windows may be fitted between two vertical stanchions 2 and a special slab provided over the door. Gutter blocks may be provided and the roof and guttering covered with asphalt.
