Abstract
1,124,003. Air heaters; heat exchange elements. FRANCAISE DU FERODO S.A. 31 Jan., 1966 [6 Feb., 1965; 25 Jan., 1966], No. 4233/66. Heading F4S. An air heater, in which hot water flows from an inlet tube 11 and inlet header 7 through tubes la to an intermediate header 6 and then through tubes 1b to an outlet header 8, has an auxiliary supply pipe 12 for the hot water terminating at the intermediate header 6 thereby enabling a circulation of hot water at the inlet temperature in the intermediate header, air flowing in a transverse direction across the tubes between the walls 4 and 5. A constriction 13 regulates the quantity of water entering via the auxiliary pipe. In a second embodiment some of the water is maintained at inlet temperature until it reaches the intermediate header by having auxiliary plastics insulating tubes within the tubes la. Other embodiments show single tube exchangers in which the auxiliary conduit is a half-length tube between the inlet and the middle of the main conduit, and baffle means are provided from the middle to the outlet to mix the two streams.
