Abstract

1,119,492. A.C. motors. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 July, 1965 [15 July, 1964], No. 29367/65. Heading H2A. In a synchronous electric motor, having a stator 1 energized by a coil and a permanent magnet rotor 2, the rotor is axially divided into at least two parts 3, 4 each having North and South poles and the angle subtended between like poles of adjacent parts is 90 degrees. Selfstarting may be provided by arranging the resultant magnetic field of the rotor in the rest position to be at least 5 degrees, preferably 90 degrees to the direction of the stator field. As shown this is obtained by auxiliary magnets 5, 6 connected to axial projections on the rotor. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown), the rotor consists of three parts, the outer two (12, 14) having, a magnetic field at 90 degrees to the field of the central part (13). An auxiliary magnet (15) is attached to the rotor and an iron yoke (18) surrounds the auxiliary magnet (15) so as to provide the starting arrangement.
