Abstract

1,116,903. Controlling vehicles. W. VINTEN Ltd. 4 July, 1966 [22 July, 1965], No.31169/65. Heading B7H. In a vehicle, e.g. a camera dolly, having two steered wheels and a single or two or more coaxial non-steered wheels, an apparatus for steering the vehicle about an instantaneous centre on the axis of the non-steered wheel or wheels comprises an endless chain 36 passing over sprockets 16 and 17 for steering the wheels 14 and 15, over guide pulleys 28, 29, 30 and 31 and over a pair of eccentrically mounted pulleys 33 and 34. A steering handle 38 is connected to a sprocket 39 which is connected by a chain 42 passing over a tensioner sprocket 40 to sprocket 17, or by a similar arrangement to sprocket 16, both 16 and 17 being double sprockets. Alternatively, a single resiliently mounted movable eccentric sprocket may be used instead of the pair 33, 34. The handle 38 may be mounted in the steering shaft so as to be pivotable about its straight side either so as to operate a brake device or to provide for differing steering positions in which it may be locked. The chain may be replaced by an endless belt having appropriately spaced apertures.
