Abstract

1,116,248. Lifting clamps. J. C. RENFROE & SONS Inc. 1 June, 1966 [15 June, 1965]. No. 24442/66. Heading B8H. A lifting force may be applied to a shackle 32 of a lifting clamp in any direction between those indicated by arrows A, B, to urge a gripping jaw 24 into engagement with a load in a slot 20. When the lifting force is applied in a direction having a component in the direction of the arrow A the shackle 32 abuts a pin 18 which forms a fulcrum. The jaw 24 is urged into the slot 20 by a spring 66 and may be withdrawn by raising a handle 48. Fig. 7 (not shown), illustrates an embodiment in which a fulcrum for a lifting shackle (132) is formed by a spacer bar (118) and the jaw (126) is urged into engagement with the load by a spring (145) tensioned by an over-centre lever (141).
