Abstract
1,100,805. Automatic frequency control systems. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. 23 April, 1965 [8 May, 1964], No. 17313/65. Heading H3A. A system wherein an oscillator (1, Fig. 1, not shown) is synchronized with a reference frequency (3) by a phase discriminator (4) is characterized in that the output of the discriminator passes through a two-stage RC filter (5) shown in Fig. 2, the resistance R2 of the second stage being shunted by a pair of oppositely poled diodes Dl and D2. When the oscillator is well off tune the diodes conduct and the system has a large capture range; when the oscillator is nearly in tune the diodes do not conduct and the filter provides the desired attenuation of the reference frequency. The oscillator (1) may be provided with coarse tuning means and feed a frequency divider (2), the tuning control being ganged to a control of the division ratio so that the output of the divider (2) which is fed to the phase discriminator is always approximately equal to the reference frequency.
