Abstract

1,198,382. Pouring spouts for containers. CORRUGATED CONTAINER CO. 22 April, 1968, No. 18914/68. Heading B8D. [Also in Division F2] Telescopic dispensing valve for a container, especially for milk, comprises a hollow valve member 50 closed at one end and having a radial port 58 near this end, the member is slidable in a positioning sleeve 45 which is slidable in turn in a fixed guide sleeve 40. This sleeve 40 is integral with a cap 38 which snaps on to the neck 31 of the container by means of a co-operating groove and bead 33, 41. The container is preferably made by blow moulding in a thermoplastic such as polyethylene or propylene, and the valve ports also may be of plastics material. The container wall is recessed as shown so that when the valve member and positioning sleeve are both retracted, the valve will lie within the outline of the container which will stack snugly in a case along with others, whilst in dispensing position the port 58 will suitably overhang a shelf 5. For hygienic reasons, the end of the sleeve 45 over which milk will flow before the valve is fully opened, is protected by enclosure in an annular recess 61 of the valve member. The member has a flange 55 serving as a pull tab and shaped below as a pointer 57. Projections 52, 53 in the sleeve 45 and similarly in the sleeve 40 act as seals. A groove 47b in the rear of the positioning sleeve snaps into engagement with the projection 51 to locate the valve in open position whilst a shoulder 47 bears on the rear of the guide sleeve. To avoid tampering with the container, the valve member is secured to the cap by a tie 65 which must be broken to open the valve.
