Abstract

1,197,518. Storage apparatus. FISHOLOW PRODUCTS Ltd. 31 Oct., 1968 [2 Nov., 1967], No. 49867/67. Heading A4T. Storage apparatus comprises a rack 10 with rails 13 supporting loads 15 positioned and removed by a transfer device 11 comprising two vertical members 16 joined at their ends by horizontal members 17, movable along the rack by wheels 18 driven over rails 19 by motor 23 controlled at console 26 also controlling movement of a vertical load carrier 24 on device 11 having forks 25 extendable into the rack. The device 11 has non-rigid connections between the vertical and horizontal members to accommodate irregularities in the floor on rails 19, e.g. bolts 27 engaging enlarged holes in the members; means synchronising the advancement of the upper with the lower end of the device 11, e.g. shaft 31 carried by vertical member bearings 32 with identical sprockets 33 engaging chain or rack 34; and safety means to stop the motor 23 in response to a predetermined angular movement between the vertical and horizontal members, i.e. due to swaying of the frame in the rail direction, formed by e.g. a micro-switch or wiper operated by the angular movement and working through a transistorised bridge network and relays to open a motor switch and close a indicator switch. Rollers 21 engaging rails 22 prevent transverse swaying. The console 26 may control the apparatus automatically in response to programmed signals.
