Abstract

1,197,288. Wrapped packages with tear lines. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. 13 Nov., 1967 [28 Nov., 1966], No. 51487/67. Heading B8C. [Also in Divisions B4-B5] A pair of webs 21, 22 (Fig. 2), are sealed at front and sides about an article or articles, at least one of the webs is perforated, and the webs are welded and parted behind the article(s). In the form illustrated, sets of buns delivered by a conveyer 10 under the control of a photocell 12 are batched by a gate 14 and a conveyer 16 co-operating with a photocell 18 and are then fed between the two webs 21, 22 which are sealed longitudinally at 34. The web 22 is perforated longitudinally by a wheel 26. The webs are fed by rollers 28, which also draw them taut, and the webs are sealed and cut transversely by a device 40 which also applies a transverse line of perforations in front of and behind the cut. The cutting device and the web feed are controlled by a photo-cell 38. The cutting and welding are effected by a hot wire 56 (Fig. 6) brought into operation after the webs have been clamped between surfaces 52, 78 and 58, 80. The transverse perforations are made by blades 74 which co-operate with bristles 82 supporting the webs.
