A liquid composition for use in cleaning and disinfecting porcelain-type fixtures comprises a surfactant, an acid and pyrogenic silica. Surfactants which may be used are alkanolamides, ethoxylated alcohols, ethoxylated alkyl phenols, ethoxylated amines and amides, ethoxylated fatty acids, ethoxylated fatty esters, glycol esters and oils, ethoxylated lanolin based derivatives, lecithin and lecithin derivatives, ethoxylated monoglycerides and glycerol esters, silicon and siloxane derivatives, ethoxylated sorbitan derivatives, tertiary amine oxides, ethoxylated thio and mercapto derivatives, ethoxylated condensates of propylene oxide and propylene glycol, amino amides and imidazolines, quaternary ammonium salts and derivatives, fatty amine salts, alkyl oxazolines, aliphatic and aromatic phosphate ester derivatives, aryl and alkyl sulphonates including diphenyl sulphonate derivatives, isothionates, ethoxylated alcohol sulphates of ethoxylated alcohol, butane derivatives, imidazoline derivatives, or amino and sulphuric esters or sulphonic derivatives. The surfactant may be used in an amount of from 0À01-5À00% by weight. The acid component of the composition is preferably hydrochloric acid, but other acids and mixtures may be used such as sulphuric, carbolic, oxalic, acetic, sulfamic, phosphoric and citric acids. The pyrogenio silica is preferably Cab-O-Sil. The acid is present in an amount of from 1-30%, preferably 3-10% by weight, while the pyrogenic silica is present in an amount of from 1-3% by weight. Other ingredients which may be added are germicides, odour imparting materials, dyes and chlorides of sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, stannous and chromous.
