Abstract

1,192,984. Exhaustion dyeing process. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 31 Aug., 1967 [1 Sept., 1966], No. 39782/67. Headings D1B and D1P. An exhaustion dyeing process (including optical brightening of cotton, e.g. Ex 9) comprises using a dyebath comprising an organic liquid immiscible with water, a surface active dispersing agent, and dispersed in the organic liquid, an aqueous solution or dispersion of a dyestuff insoluble in or at most sparingly soluble in the organic liquid, the water content of the dyebath being not more than 10% by weight to dye fibrous material. The organic liquid may be a liquid hydrocarbon or liquid halogenated hydrocarbon or mixture thereof, the dispersing agent being anionic, non-ionic or cationic, or an ampholytic surface active agent. The fibrous material may be after-treated, e.g. with cationic resins to improve wet fastness. Vat, acid, basic, dispense and substantive dyes may be employed to dye polyamides, polyesters, polyacrylonitrile, polyvinylalcohol, polyvinyl chloride, wool, silk, cotton and regenerated celluose.
