Abstract

1,186,961. Windscreen washing apparatus. MINERVA LABORATORIES (INSTRUMENTS) Ltd. 1 Jan., 1969 [11 Jan., 1968], No. 1724/68. Headings A4F. [Also in Division F1] In a windscreen washing apparatus liquid is delivered from a reservoir to a discharge nozzle by a peristaltic pump directcoupled to an electric motor. The plastics pump housing 3 has resilient claws 4 which engage a flange 5 on the motor 1 to hold housing and motor together. Disposed within the housing 3 is a flexible tube 10 (Fig. 2, not shown) bent into U-shape and having connectors for conduits leading to the liquid reservoir and the discharge nozzle, respectively. The motor shaft 6 carries the pump rotor 13 having rollers 20 for engaging the flexible tube to produce the pumping action. The rotor body is formed with cut-outs so that the rollers 20 are mounted on the ends of arcuate spring arms 19 (Fig. 6, not shown), thus permitting the pump to be operated without overloading the motor in the event of a blockage downstream of the pump.
