Abstract

1,182,198. Photographic silver halide developer composition; light-sensitive material; diffusion transfer process. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Aug.30, 1967 [Aug.30, 1966(2)], No.39627/67. Heading G2C. A photographic silver halide developer composition contains (a) a 3-pyrazolidone developing agent together with, per millimole of said developing agent, (b) 0À03 to 13g of an auxiliary developing agent which is an ascorbic acid or a mixture thereof with a polyhydroxybenzene compound containing at least 50% by weight of the ascorbic acid and (c) 0À30 to 60 grams of an oxidation inhibitor which is an alkali-metal or ammonium salt of a hydroxy-substituted aliphatic polycarboxylic acid, e.g. a citrate or tartrate, or a mixture of such salts. The composition may also contain a saccharide and an alkaline substance such as sodium metaborate, and the polyhydroxy benzene compound e.g. hydroquinone may be present in ester form. The composition may be in solution in water forming a photographic developer, or it may be incorporated into the emulsion layer and/or other layers of a light-sensitive silver halide material. A light-sensitive silver halide element containing the developer composition may be used in a silver salt diffusion transfer process by bring- ing the exposed element into contact with an imagereceiving sheet containing a silver halide solvent, a silver-precipitating agent and optionally a neutralizing agent such as sodium fluoride, oxalate or metaborate, in the presence of aqueous alkali or, if alkali is included in the developer composition, in the presence of water, or in the presence of heat alone if sufficient moisture is present.
