Abstract
1,180,666. Feeding sheets. INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS Ltd. 7 May, 1968 [16 May, 1967], No. 22614/67. Heading B8R. Documents 9, Fig. 1, are stacked on edge on a support member 1 inclined to the horizontal and its lower end formed into a shallow upward bend, and the documents are urged towards the bent end by a plate 4 on a carriage 2 urged by gravity on rollers 5 against the stack. A linkage 19 is controlled by a sheet utilizing apparatus to open a valve 18 and blow air through an aperture 16 in a feed bed 7, causing a pressure differential which attracts the end sheet to the bed 7 and moves it against a stop 8. When a sheet is to be fed, the linkage 19 closes the valve 18 and opens a valve 17 to blow air through an aperture 15 and move the sheet along the bed, further air blows through apertures 10 holding the sheet against the bed. Air blown through a pipe 20 assists in the separation of the sheets, being blown against the edge of the stack. In another form, Fig. 2, the inclination of the member I is adjustable by a hand wheel 26, and the carriage 2 is provided with a brake comprising a shoe 27 engaging one of its rollers 5. When a switch arm 33 detects the presence of sheets on the bend, a solenoid 29 is de-energized to allow the shoe to engage the roller and stop the carriage. This form is used for thick documents which might otherwise over-run the member 2.
