Abstract
1,174,241. Sliding windows. TELEFLEX PRODUCTS Ltd. 9 Dec., 1966 [25 Oct., 1965], No. 45127/65. Heading E2M. [Also in Division F2] In an operating mechanism for a sliding window of a motor vehicle, including a flexible cable 26 in a conduit 11, 12, 13, and a drive unit 14 comprising, in a housing 18, 19, a drive pinion 21 engaging the cable 26, the conduit section 11 comprises two separate sections 11a, 11b of flexible tubing, e.g. of plastics, secured one to either side of the housing 18, 19 which defines a guide channel 29 for the cable between the ends of the sections 11a, 11b. The conduit sections 12, 13 are rigidly formed of rolled steel strip to have a continuous longitudinal slot 15 through which clips on the cable 26 project to engage the window to be moved. The main portions of sections 12, 13 are straight and parallel to the direction of movement of the window. The cable 26 comprises a wire 28 wound, helically round a core 27 to form a flexible rack. The drive pinion is carried on an operating shaft 23 and is connected thereto by a spring friction clutch 22. Moulded end sleeves (38) (Fig. 12, not shown) on the sections 11a, 11b are received by sockets 24 formed in the housing 18, 19, annular flanges on the sleeves 38 engaging recesses 25 in the sockets to axially locate the conduits. The plastics conduit sections 11a, 11b are connected to the metal conduits 12, 13 by plastics clamps 30. One end of each clamp has a plain, grooved, or threaded bore moulded on, welded, bonded, or screwed on to the plain, grooved, or threaded end of the flexible conduit 11 (Fig. 16, not shown). The other part of the clamp is axially split to form a split clamp 32 closed to grip the metal conduit 12 or 13 by a rivet 34, a key 33 integral with the clamp or separate from it engaging the end of the slot 15 in the metal conduit.
