Abstract
1,165,676. Printing plates. RANK XEROX Ltd. 12 Sept., 1966 [13 Sept., 1965], No. 40611/66. Heading B6C. [Also in Division G2] A lithographic master is formed by forming an electrostatic latent image on a xerographic plate, developing the image with an aqueousbased developer, placing the imaged surface in face-to-face contact with a hydrophilic base, coating the back of the base with a hydrophobic material until the front of the base is hydrophobic, applying pressure to the back of said xerographic plate to transfer the developed image to the base, and separating the base from the plate. Preferably the base is paper and the hydrophobic material is an aliphatic hydrocarbon. The developer may contain a resin (e.g. vinyl resin, a cellulose derivative, starch, a protein, an acrylic resin or an alginate) and a thickner (e.g. a gum, dextrine, glucol, glycerol or polyethylene oxide). Thelithographic plates may be used for printing using an aqueous-based ink containing a dye, pigment or metal complex, the ink being applied by a rubber blade.
