Abstract

1,158,495. Flying helmet. M.L. AVIATION CO. Ltd. 27 Feb., 1967 [3 March, 1966], No. 9423/66. Heading A3V. A non-pressurized airman's helmet has an oxygen mask 6 supported by a jaw-piece 7 which is pivoted to the shell 4 at one side 8 and releasably secured to the other side 10 so that the jaw-piece and the mask can be swung away from the wearer. The helmet is described in detail in Specification 1,158,494 and is particularly for use with an ejection seat helmet restraint system. The jaw-piece is rigid and the oxygen mask 6 is secured to a U-shaped bracket within the jaw-piece. The pressure of the mask against the face is controlled by a knob 30 secured to a screwed rod 31. Further adjustment wheels 18, 24 enable the mask to be raised or lowered relative to the jaw-piece. In an alternative mask adjusting means, Fig. 5 (not shown), the mask is held against the face by a pair of upper cords (33), (34) and a pair of lower cords (35), (36). Each pair is connected over pulleys to adjusting screws (46), (50) respectively.
