Abstract

115,489. Smith, P. H., and Vickers, G. B. May 9, 1917. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-A fuel nozzle in which fuel and air receive a whirling motion comprises a block with an elongated chamber 3, 4 in which the fluids are mixed. As shown in Fig. 4, both air and fuel are supplied past the valve 12, some issuing through the axial passage 4 and some through lateral passages 15 to an annular channel 7 from which lead passages 9 which are tangential to the chamber 3. The passages 15 may lead from the seating of the valve 12. The channels 7 may form races for a small metal ball 8. Fig. 1. In this form, the air is supplied to the passages 9 from the combustion chamber. The invention is applicable to burners for furnaces.
