Abstract

1,153,648. Benzothiazole derivatives. TWYFORD LABORATORIES Ltd. 20 March, 1968 [22 March, 1967], No. 13358/67. Heading C2C. Compounds of the general formula (R 1 = H, halogen, C 1-4 alkyl, CF 3 , alkoxy or NO 2 , R 2 , 3 = H, C 1-4 alkyl, #-hydroxyethyl or benzyl or -NR 2 R 3 = heterocyclic group, provided that R 1 is not H when R 2 , 3 are both alkyl) and their salts are prepared by reacting an appropriate 2-halobenzothiazole with the appropriate substituted aniline, optionally followed by salt formation. The 2-halobenzothiazole may be reacted with 4-(#-chloroethoxy)-aniline and the resulting 2 - [4 - (# - chloroethoxy)- anilino]benzothiazole condensed with R 2 R 3 NH. The preparation of bis-(2-nitro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl) disulphide, 2 - amino - 4 - trifluoromethylbenzenethiol, 2 - mercapto - 5 - trifluoromethylbenzothiazole and 2 - chloro - 5 - trifluoromethylbenzothiazole is described. The compounds of the invention are antidepressants, anticonvulsants, anticholinergic agents, potentiate the central action of amphetamine and reverse the effects of reserpine. They may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them together with a carrier.
