Abstract

1,146,973. Laminated fabrics. POROUS PLASTICS Ltd. 31 March, 1966 [1 April, 1965], No. 13960/65. Heading B5N. A method of making a water vapour permeable material comprising two porous sheets of fibrous material firmly adhered to each other by a continuous microporous layer of polymeric adhesive material e.g. of polyurethane or polysiloxane comprises forming a mixture comprising the polymeric adhesive material dissolved in a solvent e.g. cyclohexanone or ethylacetate, with a finely divided removable solid filler e.g. sodium chloride evenly dispersed therein, applying a layer of the mixture to at least one of the sheets, placing the sheets in contact so that a layer of the mixture is formed between the sheets and removing the solvent and the filler from the resultant composite body by respectively heating and leaching. The fibrous sheets may be woven, non-woven or knitted, of cotton, nylon, polyester or rayon or mixtures thereof and are preferably made of staple fibres. Crosslinking agents (for the polyurethane) and surface active agents may be included in the adhesive mixtures.
