Abstract
1,143,330. Tetracydine compositions. E. MERCK A.G. 20 Dec., 1967 [24 Dec., 1966], No. 57762/67. Heading A5B. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a tetracycline antibiotic, sarcosine and/or sarcosine anhydride and a physiologically acceptable amine, carboxylic acid amide and/or an alkaline earth metal glycerophosphate. The compositions are stated to be of improved stability in aqueous solution over a considerable pH range and may be put up in conventional forms for oral, parenteral and rectal administration including dry and freeze-dried preparations for the extemporaneous preparation of injection solutions. A wide range of acyclic and heterocyclic amines and amides are specified. Those preferred being aminocarboxylic acid amides (optionally N-substituted) such as #-amino propionic acid amide, aminoacetamide, diethylamino-N-(2-hydroxyethyl acetamide), pyrrolidino-N-hydroxymethyl acetamide, N-2(-hydroxyethy]-γ-morpholino butyric acid amide and methionine amide. An alkaline earth metal salt, especially of Ca or Mg, may also be present.
