Abstract
1,143,110. Acrolein and acrylic acid; methacrolein and methacrylic acid. B. F. GOODRICH CO. 30 Aug., 1966 [30 Aug., 1965], No. 38584/66. Addition to 1,038,643. Heading C2C. [Also in Division B1] Acrolein and acrylic acid or methacrolein and methacrylic acid are made by passing vapours of propylene or isobutene respectively and an oxygen-containing gas over a catalyst comprising MnMoO 4 , TeO 2 and P 2 O 5 in a molar ratio of 100 MnMoO 4 , 10-100 TeO 2 and 50 P 2 O 5 at 300-550‹ C. If desired, the reactant gases may additionally contain steam, saturated hydrocarbons or inert gases. The reaction may be effected in a fixed or fluidized bed.
