Abstract
1,034,567. Harnesses. G.Q. PARACHUTE CO. Ltd. April 9, 1965 [April 25, 1964], No. 17226/64. Heading A3V. [Also in Division E2] A readily-releasable parachute or workman's safety harness comprises a main U-sling 12-14, a rear brace in the form of a strap 31 passing from one shoulder buckle 15 to links 32 and 33 and back to the other shoulder buckle 16 and legchest strags 25, 27 and 26, 28 which pass through loops 37, 36 on webs 35, 34 respectively which form extensions of the waist band portion of rear straps 31 to quick release buckles 42, 43 mounted on sling straps 12 and 13 at chest level. The leg and chest straps may be integral or, as shown, connected by buckles 29, 30. The length of strap 31 may also be adjustable, by means of buckles 38, 39. In an alternative form, (Fig. 2, not shown) the strap 31 carries the loops 36, 37, tehe extension webs 34, 35 and links 32, 33 being omitted. Further links 21-24 are provided to support auxiliary equipment and the parachute pack is mounted on the harness by threading the strap 31 through webbing loops such as 41 on the pack. These loops may be releasable. The buckles 42, 43 may be replaced by a quick release box (Fig. 4, not shown). Activation of the quick release means allows the leg-chest straps to be pulled clear of the harness so that the wearer can step out of it forwardy and leaves the rear brace 31 connected to the sling only at buckles 15, 16 so that it can be lifted forwardly over the user's head to enable him to climb out backwards if forward exit is blocked.
