Abstract

[Also in Division B6] Apparatus for inverting articles, such as stacks of tin sheets which are to be printed on both sides, comprises a pair of spaced vertical wheels 1, interconnected by horizontal rods and supported on rollers driven from an electric motor 15, and a substantially rectangular receptacle 5 which is open at one end and which is mounted on the wheels 1 with its major axis 6 arranged at an acute angle 7 to the axis of rotation 4 of the wheels 1. Limit switches, Fig. 6 (not shown), in the motor circuit restrict the rotation of the wheels 1 to half of a revolution and the arrangement of the receptacle is such that, during this rotation, the centre 33 of the end wall of the receptacle always lies at or below the level of the axis 4 of the wheels 1. In operation, a stack of sheets, supported on a pallet, is placed in the receptacle by a fork lift truck, an inverted pallet is placed on top of the stack and the receptacle is rotated through half of a revolution. The inverted stack is then removed from the receptacle. The apparatus may be mounted in a well with the lower floor of the receptacle at ground level. In a modification (not shown), the wheels 1 are allowed to roll for half of a revolution along guide tracks, thereby providing spaced loading and unloading stations. An electromagnetic brake is associated with the motor 15 and, additionally positive stops adapted to be engaged by the receptacle at the limits of movement may be provided.
