Abstract

1,029,174. Refuse incinerators. WISTRA OFENBAU G.m.b.H. May 21, 1963 [May 23, 1962], No. 20113/63. Heading F4B. In a method of waste disposal using a revolving tubular furnace, garbage is dried, ignited and part-burned within the furnace itself, the burning and discharge processes being completed in one or more subsequent stationary or moving grates. The garbage, especially of fine-grained or slurried form, is supplied via feeder 1 to the rotary furnace 2 where it is dried, ignited at discharge end 4 and partly burned. The residue is discharged on to the travelling grate 5 and combustion completed, grate droppings being collected by funnels 12. The slag drops into column 6 and is removed. Preheated combustion air enters the furnace via duct 7 and the resulting flue gases and vapours mix with the flue gases that are evolved by the completion of the combustion process in the mixing chamber 8, the latter gases sterilizing and deodorizing the former. The resultant gas mixture passes through aperture 13 to a heat exchanger (not shown), which may be disposed above or below the grate or grates and which may preheat the furnace air supply. Burners may be disposed near duct 7 to be used intermittently or continuously to preheat. Air for supporting combustion on the grate 5, enters via a duct 9, cools side walls 10 and enters the funnels 12 through apertures 11. This air may be preheated in the heat exchanger and/or mixed with flue gas from chamber 8 and/or vapours evolved in any pre-drying of the garbage prior to its entry to feeder 1.
