Abstract

1,029,057. Mould and core materials. FULLER'S EARTH UNION Ltd. Sept. 8, 1964 [June 24, 1963; Nov. 18, 1963], Nos. 25042/63 and 45445/63. Heading B3F. A self-hardening foundry mix comprises sand, 3-7% by weight of sand of an aqueous metal silicate solution having a solids content of between 25-55% and molar ratio SiO 2 : alkali metal oxide of 1À5-3À5 and up to 2% by weight of sand of glycerol triacetate or glycol diacetate or both, the mixing being conducted in the substantial absence of organic solvents. Up to 1À5% of dextrin or up to 0À5% of an emulsifier may be included. In a modification an amount, preferably below 10%, of a silicofluoride, e.g. sodium silicofluoride, is added. Many examples are given. The hardening may be assisted by blowing a gas such as CO 2 through the shaped mould or core.
