[Also in Division A1] A device for the automatic charging of measured quantities of feedstuff to poultry feed trays comprises a mechanical supply means 2, 5 to which a plurality of feed trays 3 are each connected via individual storage containers 7, 9, the outlet opening from each storage container being automatically opened after the filling of the last storage container connected to the supply device. The supply device includes a tube 2 connected at one end to a hopper 1 and having a worm rotatable therein by means of a motor 5 which is mounted on a container 4 connected to the other end of the tube. The storage containers comprise tubes 7 communicating with the feed tube 2 and having slidable thereon sleeves 9 which normally rest on the trays as shown in Fig. 2. In operation, upon energizing the motor 5, the worm is rotated so as to draw feedstuff from the hopper 1 and deposit it into the storage containers. After the last container has been filled the container 4 is gradually filled until the pressure of the feedstuff acts on a lever thereby closing contacts which simultaneously stops the worm motor 5 and starts a further motor connected by cables 10, 12 to the sleeves 9; the sleeves are raised and the measured quantity of feedstuff falls into the trays 3. The sleeves may be lowered again after a suitable interval determined by a time switch. In order to prevent the feedstuff from flowing into a particular tray, the cable 12 of its associated jacket 9 is disconnected or, alternatively, the tray may be raised by means of screws 17 until it contacts a shield 8. The device may be suspended from the roof by cables 6a or mounted on supports 6.
