Abstract

1,010,494. Tube heat cxchanger. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 20, 1964 [March 4, 1963], No. 8610/63. Heading F4S. In a multipass shell and tube heat exchanger in which the tubes are fixed at one end only in a tube plate 3, the tube passes are so arranged that successive passes are at different radii from the centre of the tube plate such that the temp. of the tube plate varies progressively from the centre to the edge. The connections of the relatively free ends of the tubes may consists of hairpin connections 5 with or without floating head assemblies 6. Fig. 6 (not shown) represents the diagrammatic quadrant crosssection of Fig. 3, showing tube arrangement at the relatively free end. The tubes may be grouped to receive two fluids at different temperatures so that the fluid flowing through the shell is heated progressively as it passes over successive tube groups.
