Abstract
1,007,569. Inductors. A. B. TRENCH, and S. S. HERSHOFF. May 29, 1962, No. 20614/62. Heading H1T. An air core reactor comprises a number of coaxial single layer windings connected in parallel by the conducting arms of spiders 23, 24 (Fig. 1). The windings may be of different lengths and may be insulated. The inner windings may be of different winding pitch from the outer windings and may be of smaller cross-section and carry less current. Air or a refrigerant gas may be circulated between the windings and through the perforated inner sleeve 21. The sleeve 21 may be replaced by insulated tie rods 81 (Fig. 8, not shown), and the different radial spacings between the windings may be obtained by using different numbers or different thicknesses of insulating rods. Holding devices for the insulating rods and for the winding ends are described (Fig. 6- not shown). The reactor axis may be horizontal. Constructional details, including dimensions of one reactor and a formula relating the various parameters of the reactor, are given.
