A counterbalanced lampstand has arms 3, 4 pivoted together by a pin 5 and arm 3 is pivotally connected to a housing 1 by a spindle 2 about which rotates an eccentric 8 secured to arm 3, an outer eccentric 7 rotatable about eccentric 8 being connected by a bar 6 to the arm 4 and a tension spring 10 has an end 10<SP>1</SP> engaging the circumferential surface of eccentric 7.
