Abstract
1,093,111. Weighing apparatus. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Sept. 15, 1964 [Sept. 20, 1963], No.37121/63. Heading G1W. Apparatus for delivering material from a hopper E to a jig washer JW comprises a conveyer A having boundary surfaces adjacent its upper surface as to ensure the volume of material on the conveyer A is constant, the speed of the conveyer being adjusted in accordance with a predetermined relationship between the rate of feed of material from the conveyer and the bulk density of the material on the conveyer. The conveyer A is pivotally mounted on a fulcrum C vertically below the hopper E and is provided with a counterbalance weight W. A weighing device J which may be pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical is arranged to transmit a signal in accordance with the weight of material it senses through an amplifier P to actuate suitably a variable speed drive of the conveyer A. The weighing device J may include a diaphragm (JA) Fig. 3 (not shown) which is supplied with fluid through a valve (JB) so as to maintain the conveyer A in a balanced position. The pressure of the fluid is signalled to the variable speed drive through a conduit (JE). The hopper may be supplied with material either from a bunker O (Fig. 1) fitted with a vibro-feeder N which is controlled by a controller K so as to maintain the level of material in the hopper E between two levels LU and M or from a bunker (O) Fig. 2 (not shown) which is connected to the hopper E by a chute (T) and which is filled from a conveyer R by an amount controlled by a controller K which suitably positions a material deflector S.
