Abstract

1,081,451. Jigging conveyers. ALLEN-HARPER Inc. Aug. 21, 1964 [Aug. 21, 1963], No. 34321/64. Heading B8A. A reciprocating conveyer comprises a conveyer bed and a low frequency drive therefor characterized by slow advancement of the bed at the start of the feed stroke and abrupt stopping at the end of the feed stroke to toss forward material being conveyed. Fig. 1 shows a conveyer bed 10 mounted on rollers 12 and reciprocated by a drive 16 including an electric motor 18 driving a flywheel 22 carrying a crank arm 28 with a sprocket 30 engaging a chain 40 attached at one end to a fixed pin 46 and at the other end to the conveyer bed 10. The chain 40 is kept taut by the action of a spring 48 urging the conveyer bed 10 to the right. Fig. 5 depicts the action of the drive as the crank arm 28 is rotated, the static frictional engagement between material 32 and the conveyer bed 10 being broken by the abrupt reversal between the feeding and retraction resulting in tossing or throwing the material forward. Fig. 6 shows a drive incorporating elliptical gears 74, 76 to maximize the throwing or tossing action.
