Abstract

A method of providing a corrosion resistant pre-stressing steel strand or rope comprises applying electrostatically charged particles of a hard corrosion resistant wax or resin onto substantially the entire surface of the strand or rope to be protected, including the interstices between the individual wires at the periphery of the strand or rope and applying heat to the so applied particles of the wax or resin to melt the same and form a continuous coating on the surface of the strand or rope to be protected, and effecting solidification of the wax or resin coating. A suitable wax for forming the coating is stearamide wax; a suitable resin is a sharp melting type of polythene. From 2% to 10% of tannin may be dispersed throughout the wax or resin matrix. The powdered material may be sprayed on, or the strand may be passed through a fluidised bed of the powder.
