Abstract
1,066,502. Lens mounts; diaphragms. RANK PRECISION INDUSTRIES Ltd., [trading as RANK ORGANISATION RANK TAYLOR HOBSON DIVISION]. Nov.12, 1963 [Nov.14, 1962], No.43079/62. Heading G2J. A zoom type objective comprising a front assembly which includes the relatively movable members A2, A3; and an iris diaphragm B located near the front of a normally stationary rear assembly A4 has mechanism B2 for operating the diaphragm B housed within a stationary tube B1 which also houses at least part of the rear assembly A4, the tube B1 having an external cam groove B7 for controlling the movement of the movable member A3. As shown the diaphragm B is operated by rotating control element B3 coupled by pin B5 to rotatable tube B2 which itself operates the diaphragm B in normal manner. On moving zoom control element E, bevel gearing E2, E3 rotates a pinion E1 meshing with gear teeth D3 on the outer surface of a drive tube D, so that tube D is rotated, and, since it has pin D2 and roller D1 engaging the cam groove B7, it is also moved longitudinally to adjust the axial position of member A3 carried by the drive tube D. The member A2 is carried by a mount G having three outwardly directed pins G1 angularly spaced at 120‹ intervals, each pin Gl having a pair of rollers G2, G3, engaging respectively a longitudinal slot such as D4 or D5 in tube D and an internal cam groove C3 in an outer stationary member, so that as tube D rotates, it causes pins G1 and thus mount G to rotate, and, due to the rollers G3 and cam grooves C3, the mount G and member A2 are moved longitudinally. To facilitate manufacture, grooves C3 are cut as cam slots right through the wall of an inner part C2 which is thereafter rigidly secured as a liner within an outer part C1. Mount J, carrying front member A1, has an external screwthread J1 co-operating with an internal screwthread H1 on a stationary outer tube H fixed to parts C1, C2, so that member A1 many be axially moved for focusing.
